Breaking news: Man Utd icon Sir Alex Ferguson has already picked sides as board 'split' on Solskjaer sack
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left at risk after a
Manchester derby defeat before the international
break.
Manchester United hero Sir Alex Ferguson's
stance is clear after it was reported that the
Red Devils' boardroom is split on the issue of
sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian
played under Ferguson for 11 years at Old Trafford,
and the Scot still has plenty of sway over
matters behind the scenes.
A series of poor results, including heavy defeats
to Leicester city ,Liverpool and Manchester city
have piled the pressure on Solskjaer during
the international break.
Names like Zinedine Zidane, Mauricio
Pochettino and Brendan Rodgers being linked
with the job have not made the past few weeks
any easier either.
But according to Fabrizio Romano the lack of
a truly convincing managerial alternative has
divided the United boardroom.
However, with Solskjaer still in a job for now
at least, it appears as though he has a majority
backing behind the scenes.
One figure he can count on is Ferguson, who
allegedly intervened after the Liverpool defeat
to buy his former striker more time in the dugout.
Romano indicated that the Scotsman is one
of the key boardroom figures advocating for
Solskjaer to be given another chance to prove
himself.
The very next game, United ran out 3-0 winners
against Tottenham, although Nuno Espírito Santo
was promptly sacked for the north London side's
poor showing.
A last-gasp draw against Atalanta soon brought
United back to reality, before City delivered a
dominant performance at Old Trafford.
Ferguson's boardroom sway appears to have
gone some way towards keeping Solskjaer in the
job, as this weekend's tie with Watford draws
closer.
There are also other elements, however, as the
difficulty involved with bringing in Rodgers or
Pochettino, both contracted to other clubs, is
believed to be weighing on United minds when it
comes to such a big decision.
Ed Woodward is also supposedly reluctant
to axe the Norwegian, with his tenure as
vice-chairman due to end in just a few weeks' time.
Romano told the United stand Youtube Chanel
on Monday: "The Man Utd board are not stupid,
they know that the situation is really complicated.
"The main part of the Man Utd board are still
supporting Ole, there are also some board
members thinking about replacing him and
going for another manager.
"They are always talking about this point, they
do not think everything is okay."
Indeed, Solskjaer seems to have Ferguson's
backing for now, but a tough run of fixtures after
the Watford clash could be make or break
when it comes to his future as boss.
Ferguson, its high time u take hands off man utd business cos u have retired long time ago if u really like solskjaer form a team and hire him as a coach ok, man utd is an iconic club wr dnt want a clueless chicken coach like ur so called ole to keep killing the club and there buying time for him.
