There are plenty of rumours flying around Manchester United as talks surrounding the current managerial situation intensifies at Old Trafford. 

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks due to the poor run of results from his team, as United have picked up just one Premier League win in their last six matches

The MEN understands United have started their succession planning to replace Ole Gunnar Solksjaer  as manager, with Leicester City coach Brendan Rodgers their preferred candidate.

It is still unclear when the club intends to sack Solskjaer as they mull over an arrival time for a replacement.

Despite Rodgers being the clear favourite for the job, one of the managers who has admirers in the United fanbase is Ajax coach, Erik ten Hag. 

The MEN also understands United figures are impressed by Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag and the Spain coach Luis Enrique, but Rodgers has been provisionally identified as the most suitable successor to Solskjaer.

Even if Rodgers is the preferred candidate, is that a popular decision in the United fanbase? As much as I think he'd do a good job, I still think there are some supporters who'd prefer the club to move for someone else. Ten Hag seems to be a popular choice within the fanbase.

Why are people raving about Ten Hag? After all, he's only managing in the Eredivisie and some people who have doubts over him think he wouldn't be able to cut it in the Premier League.

Ten Hag is different to the rest though. He has a 72 percent win ratio and guided them to the Champions League semi-final in 2019. 

We wanted to find out more about The Dutchman's personality and whether he'd be the right fit for United, so our United On My Mind writer, Omar Garrick, sat down with Ajax fan and Dutch football expert, @TheEuropeanLad, who gave us an insight into what Ten Hag is like as a manager;

When asked about the Dutchman, he said: "As a manager, he's extremely determined and tactically obsessed with football.

"In an interview with Dutch television, he said he was 'obsessed' with the game and is 100 percent committed to football.

"He's very loyal to his own philosophy, but he's also able to adjust and he will if necessary. He often says that himself. 

"As a person, he's very serious. In interviews, you'll barely see him laughing and when he does start joking, no one is used to it."

Judging by the words of @TheEuropeanLad, I think Ten Hag would fit the mould and ethos of a club like United. Why? Because if fans want someone to cope against the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, you need someone who's tactically flexible and 'obsessed with the game.'

As we've seen from some of Solskjaer's critics, The Norwegian has been criticised for lacking in his tactical flexibility. I think he's shown he's got tactics, but compared to the likes of Klopp and Guardiola, he falls short. 

The fact that Ten Hag is 'flexible' in his own philosophy is something that's a big tick for United supporters. Fans want an identity and style of play, but also possess an ability to change if needed. Ten Hag has that, which is why he probably has admirers at United.

United also need someone who's 'serious' because, as we've seen, there are supporters who live and breed the club. He'll know how to handle that as Ajax are a massive club too.

Do I think other candidates have this? Perhaps, but Ten Hag would be United's own experiment - someone who hasn't been at another Premier League club. I think if the club were going to take a risk, he should be the one to take a risk on! 

It remains to be seen whether the club would make an approach, but if they do, I don't think they'd regret it.
